The PGA Tour ends its fall segment of the season with a seaside stroll, with players trying to build up their FedEx Cup points at this week’s 2021 RSM Classic. The event, which tees off Thursday at Sea Island Golf Club, is the final official tournament before the PGA Tour really ramps up after the holidays. The players will face a picturesque but challenging course in St. Simons Island, Ga. Robert Streb is the defending champion and has won his only two tour events at Sea Island. Scottie Scheffler is the 12-1 favorite in the latest 2021 RSM Classic odds from Caesars Sportsbook, followed closely by Webb Simpson (14-1). Cameron Smith (16-1) also is expected to be right in the mix, while Streb is a 70-1 long shot. Can Scheffler keep up his recent stellar play and reward you if you make him one of your key 2021 RSM Classic Fantasy golf picks? Or would an overlooked player like Russell Henley (25-1) put you in a better position to win? Before locking in your Fantasy golf lineups for the 2021 RSM Classic, be sure to check out the Fantasy golf projections and lineup advice from fantasy expert Riley Gates.Gates is a writer for 247Sports and has covered a range of sports for nearly five years. At last week’s Houston Open, seven of his picks finished in the top 20, led by Scottie Scheffler, who tied for second.
“Until he starts trending downward, there is no reason to avoid Scheffler,” Gates told SportsLine before the 25-year-old went out and fired a second-round 62. He held the lead heading into the final day before Jason Kokrak stormed past with a 5-under 65 to win by two strokes. Gates has been on a roll this season. The previous week at the World Wide Technology Championship in Mexico, five of Gates’ top six golfers finished in the top 15, including winner Viktor Hovland. And at the Zozo Championship, five of his 13 favored players finished in the top 10.Now, Gates has locked in his top 20 golfers from the 2021 RSM Classic field. 2021 RSM Classic Fantasy golf picksGates has no problem backing Scheffler again this week at Sea Island. The young rising star tied for fifth in his only appearance at the RSM Classic in 2020, going as low as 63 on his way to 13-under par. He has been going low this season, as well, with scores of 64 and 62, and he has been in the top five in his past two tournaments. It’s just a matter of time before Scheffler gets a victory, and this could be his prime opportunity to break through. He is sixth in par breakers (30.56 percent) and 25th in greens in regulation (73.41 percent), so he should contend again. Gates isn’t nearly as high on Simpson and is fading him this week. Simpson is right at the top among the favorites and is the most accomplished player in this field, but he looks to be trying to figure things out. He has seven PGA Tour wins and a U.S. Open title, but the former No. 4 player in the world has faded to 25th, and he finished 37th at Sea Island last year. He has one top-10 finish and three missed cuts since April, and his scoring average is over 71. The oddsmakers like him this week, but Gates doesn’t, and Simpson is well outside his top 10. How to set your 2021 RSM Classic golf rankingsInstead, the Fantasy expert has a huge long-shot player in his top 10 who comes in at well over 70-1 odds. This player is quietly off to a strong start to his season, regularly shooting in the 60s. He is hitting plenty of fairways and greens, and he could surprise a lot of people. Gates is touting him as a key player for your Fantasy golf picks at Sea Island. You can head to SportsLine now to see all of Gates’ 2021 RSM Classic picks and fantasy golf advice.
