Barton Claims Third Place As Mountain Hawks Finish Fifth At Lehigh Invitational

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Junior Sam Barton tied for third place to lead the Lehigh men’s golf team at its Lehigh Invitational, which wrapped up Saturday on the Grace Course at Saucon Valley Country Club. Barton shot his second straight round of even par 72 to tie for third with Matt Ferrari of Siena at 144 but the Lehigh junior took home the third place trophy by way of his final round 72.
 
As a team, the Mountain Hawks shot 297 on Saturday to finish fifth out of 14 teams at 602 (305-297).
 
Barton’s final round included birdies on holes 5 and 18.
 
Juniors David Hurly and Daniel Song joined Barton in the top 20 Mountain Hawks from the main scoring team. Hurly made two birdies in a final round 75 and tied for 14th place at 150 (75-75). Song shot 73 with a pair of birdies on Saturday and tied for 19th place at 151 (78-73).
 
Sophomore Marco Arosemena tied for 36th place at 157 (80-77). Arosemena made one birdie on Saturday. Classmate Edmund Broderick shot 162 (80-82) and tied for 59th.
 
Freshman Aidan Oehrle led the way for Lehigh’s second five players, tying for 10th place at 149 (74-75). Oehrle made three birdies in his final round. Freshman Jahan Bains and junior Alex Aurora tied for 40th place at 158 (79-79). Bains made one birdie, while Aurora matched Oehrle with three.
 
Junior Joey Dotta had the biggest improvement from day one to day two. Dotta bounced back from a 86 Friday with a 73 Saturday that included three birdies. He tied for 47th place at 159.
 
Sophomore AJ Gilpin finished in 72nd place at 167 (81-86).
 
Harvard finished at 586 (296-290) to claim the team title by two strokes over Siena. William & Mary finished in third place.
 
Siena’s Nolan Crowley and Harvard’s Brian Ma tied for medalist honors at two under par 142. Crowley won the individual trophy behind a final round 70.
 
Lehigh will next play rival Lafayette Tuesday in the annual Presidents’ Cup matches at Hamilton Farm Golf Club in Gladstone, N.J.
