SAN ANTONIO — Central Catholic and Antonian rolled to TAPPS state cross country championship on Monday at Waco’s Cottonwood Creek Golf Course.Antonian captured its third-straight girls Class 6A team championship by 55 points. The Apaches had five finish in the top 12 for 30 points. Dallas Ursuline was second with 85.
Sophomore Micaela Villarreal led Antonian, who captured the individual championship by covering the 3,200-meter course in 11 minutes, 11.8 seconds. She won by 28 seconds. Villarreal was second last year.
Other top performers for Antonian included junior Lola Buentello (fifth), senior Ava Phelps (sixth), junior Haylee Mata (seventh) and junior Hannah Maya (12th).
Central Catholic won the boys 6A title for a second time in row. The Buttons totaled 33 points, and Antonian was second with 66.
The Buttons were paced by the 1-2 individual finishes from senior Nathan Morales (16:14.2 for 5,000 meters) and junior Andrew Rivas (16:24.1). Junior Noah Fernandez also finished in the top 10 at sixth place.
Twins Franco Parra and Marcelo Parra of TMI were the top performers in the Class 5A boys race.
Franco Parra won in a time of 15:55.7, while Marcelo Parra was second in 15:59.2. Last year, Marcelo won the individual title and Franco was runner-up.
TMI was second in the boys 5A team race with 46 points. San Antonio Christian won with 40. The Lions were led by freshman Adrian Rule (third) and senior Kyle Whaley (fourth).
