EKU Women’s Golf Overcomes 6-Shot Deficit To Win, Rylea Marcum Captures Second Straight Individual Title
It is Eastern Kentucky’s second straight team win and third of the season.

EKU began Tuesday’s final round six shots behind Lipscomb, but the Colonels fired a 293 to finish with a 54-hole total of 873. Lipscomb’s final round 299 left the Bisons with a total of 873 as well. Eastern Kentucky won the tiebreaker based on each team’s fifth score. EKU’s fifth score of 77 was three shots better than Lipscomb’s 80.
“I’m really proud of this team and their fight that they have,” head coach Mandy Moore said. “They have no quit in them and that really showed this week. It was a great team performance and to again have the 1-2 individual finishes, and another in the top 10, is just a testament to their hard work.”
Marcum shot rounds of 70 (-2), 68 (-4) and 71 (-1) for a three-round total of 209 (-7). That ties for the third lowest 54-hole score in program history. It was the second straight win for the sophomore. Marcum captured individual medalist honors at the Lady Red Wolves Classic on Oct. 12, with an 11-under total of 205.
“It feels amazing,” said Marcum. “I have always had goals that included winning multiple college events, but I never thought I would have two back-to-back. I firmly believe the key to my success was realizing the amount of support I have from not only my family and friends, but my teammates and coaches as well. I am very grateful to be a part of this amazing team and I can’t wait to keep striving for more.”
Ragnhildur Kristinsdottir placed second, four shots behind Marcum. The senior turned in rounds of 77 (+5), 67 (-5) and 69 (-3) for a total of 213 (-3). Kristinsdottir’s second round 67 is tied for the fourth lowest in EKU history.
“Rylea has been so steady the past two events and is playing some fantastic golf,” said Moore. “Ragga also had two great rounds to finish off the tournament. I love the way the team continues to push and encourage each other, and look forward to finishing the fall on a high note.”
The 17 teams competed on the par 72, 6,056-yard course at the Carolina Country Club in Spartanburg, South Carolina.
Elisa Orduna Shackleton tied for 10th overall with a total of 222 (+6). She opened with back-to-back rounds of 1-over 73 on Monday. Vilma Efraimsson (232) tied for 41st and Carlee Shoemaker (234) tied for 50th.
Playing as an individual, Mattie Jo Neeley concluded play with a final round 1-over 73 to move from a tie for 51st to a tie for 26th with a total of 228.
Central Michigan (896) and South Carolina-Upstate (896) tied for third, 23 shots behind EKU. Samford (902) was fifth. The Colonels also beat Southern Conference teams Western Carolina (6th) and Wofford (7th), fellow ASUN member North Alabama (10th) and Appalachian State (14th) from the Sun Belt.
Eastern Kentucky will conclude the fall portion of its schedule on Nov. 8-10 at the French Broad Collegiate Invitational hosted by UNC Asheville at the Cliffs at Walnut Cove.
