WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Rising junior Mallory Fobes of the UNCW women’s golf team continued to sizzle this summer by capturing the 23rd Carolinas Women’s Match Play Championships on Thursday at Gaston Country Club in Gastonia, N.C.
Fobes, an All-CAA performer from East Bend, N.C., defeated Virginia Tech graduate Jessica Spicer 2 up in the championship match after knocking off East Carolina’s Kathryn Carson in the semifinals.
It was the third tournament victory of the summer for Fobes, who paced the Seahawks with a 73.50 scoring average in 2020-21. The Forbush High School graduate also won the Golfweek Myrtle Beach Amateur title on June 18 and the N.C. State Women’s Amateur on July 9.
“We’re so happy and excited for Mallory,” said Cindy Ho, UNCW’s veteran head coach. “She’s having a tremendous summer after winning for the third time – this coming on the heels of an outstanding sophomore year. Mallory is seeing all of the hard work and dedication to her game pay off.”
