Golf tip of the week: Bracing for power and stability | News, Sports, Jobs

Maintain the brace.
The right leg should resist the pressure created by the upper body coil (left leg for the left-hand golfers).
The weight should remain on the inside of the foot much like a baseball pitcher winding up to throw a ball. The lower back muscles are similar to coiling a spring, to coil a spring one end must be held while the other end is turned creating stored energy.
Some golfers have better success by pushing both knees toward each other until there is a slight pressure on the insides of both feet, this creates balance and power.
The hips should resist the upper body coil, the hips turn approximately half the distance as the shoulders turn on the backswing. It is important to maintain the knee flex set at the address position. The golf swing is an athletic motion and requires the leg muscles to feel somewhat relaxed as if you were going to jump.
Don’t forget to enjoy this great game called golf.
