Hong Kong is capable of hosting water sports, golf and fencing for National Games 2025: Caspar Tsui

Caspar Tsui said that Hong Kong is capable of hosting water sports, golf and fencing for National Games 2025.

Hong Kong is capable of hosting water sports, golf, fencing, table tennis and badminton events for the National Games 2025, which the SAR will co-host with Guangdong province and Macau, Secretary for Home Affairs Caspar Tsui Ying-wai said.Tsui told lawmakers on Wednesday that these categories are the Hong Kong team’s strengths, and believed the SAR has “geographic advantage” in holding these events. But he said the three governments have yet to decide where to hold the games’ opening and closing ceremonies, adding that authorities will meet with the General Administration of Sport of China later.Tsui said that when planning future sports facilities, authorities will cater to public preferences, such as the recent rising trend of skateboarding.”Authorities will study in-depth what venues can fit the trends, hoping not to repeat the mistake of the British colonial government, which built a large number of squash courts but were all wasted,” he said.Responding to proposals to introduce tax incentives for the business sector to encourage them to invest in sports development, Tsui believed that after the Tokyo Olympics ended in August, businessmen have noticed the benefits of sports investment and will be more willing to support sports development in the future.
