Navy senior golfer Nicholas Klock (Moraga, Calif.) completed the two-day, 54-hole Jackson T. Stephens Cup with a 15-over par 231 to place 26th among a field that featured six of the top 60 teams in the country. Klock was one of six golfers who received a special invitation to play in the inaugural event.Klock was spectacular early on where he opened the tournament on Monday by carding a 2-over par 74 before closing out the day with a 3-over par 75 to sit in 15th after 36 holes. On Tuesday, however, he shot a 10-over par 72 to slide back to 26th in the final standings.Klock was the top finisher among the six golfers who received a special invitation to play in the inaugural Jackson T. Stephens Cup, including service academy foes Tom Katsenes of Army who placed 33rd with a 23-over par 239 and Air Force’s Colter Baca who was 36th with a 34-over par 250.Klock shot par on 24 of the 54 holes, while recording 10 birdies over the two days.Notre Dame, ranked 14th in the Golfstat poll, won the tournament as the only team shooting under par (-8). No. 2 Arkansas placed second with a 12-over par 876, followed by No. 60 Florida State (+16, 880), No. 39 Arizona (+16, 880), No. 55 Alabama (+21, 885) and No. 49 San Diego State (+26, 890). The Irish placed three individuals among the top four, including Palmer Jackson who tied Arkansas’ Mateo Fernandez De Oliveira to individual medalist honors with a 6-under par 210.Klock and his Navy teammates close out the fall season at the ODU/OBX Intercollegiate, a three-day, 54-hole event slated to begin Sunday at the Kilmarlic Golf Club in Powell’s Point, N.C.
