Kouskova paces No. 7 Women’s Golf in first round at Stanford Intercollegiate

STANFORD, Calif. — The No. 7 Texas Women’s Golf team carded a 19-over-par 303 on Friday to stand in 16th place after the opening day of the Stanford Intercollegiate at the Stanford Golf Course. Senior Sara Kouskova fired a 3-under-par 68 and is tied for second place in the individual standings after the first 18 holes.

The 17-team field at the Stanford Intercollegiate includes seven teams that are ranked in the updated Division I Muzuno WGCA Coaches Poll released earlier on Friday, including host No. 1 Stanford, No. 5 Oregon, No. 7 Texas, No. 15 UCLA, No. 18 Georgia, No. 20 Arizona State and No. 21 San Jose State.

Stanford tallied an 11-under-par 273 and holds a nine-stroke cushion over both No. 20 Arizona State and USC at 2-under-par 282. No. 21 San Jose State is fourth at 1-under-par 283.

Stanford’s Rose Zhang posted a 6-under-par 65 and owns a three-stroke advantage over a group of four players that includes Kouskova at 3-under-par 68.

Starting play on hole 10, Kouskova was even-par through her first 13 holes. She then closed with birdies on holes 6, 8 and 9 to move to 3-under after her opening round.

The Stanford Intercollegiate continues with 18 holes each on Saturday, Oct. 16 and Sunday, Oct. 17. Texas will be paired with Oregon and UCLA for Saturday’s second round, and tee times will begin at 2:05 p.m. CT (12:05 p.m. PT) from hole 1.

The Lineup

Senior Sara Kouskova is tied for second place in the individual standings at 3-under-par 68. Starting on hole 10, she played the back nine at even-par. Kouskova was still even through 13 holes after a birdie on 1 (par-5) and a bogey at 4, before finishing strong with birdies on holes 6 (par-4), 8 (par-3) and 9 (par-4).
Sophomore Bentley Cotton is tied for 66th after a 6-over-par 77.
Freshman Bohyun Park, junior Sophie Guo and freshman Tiffany Cao each registered an 8-over-par 79 on Friday and are tied for 72nd place. Friday’s round marked Cao’s collegiate debut.
