Manistee takes 2nd overall in Lakes 8 standings


LUDINGTON — The Manistee boys golf team completed its Lakes 8 Conference schedule on Wednesday, finishing third in the final jamboree of the season at Lincoln Hills Golf Club of Ludington.The Chippewas shot a collective 199, as host Ludington topped the field with a combined 136. Muskegon Catholic Central finished second with 195, as Western Michigan Christian placed fourth with 201.
Jacob Scharp led the way for Manistee, carding a 44, as Brayden Sorenson (49) Mason Adamski (53) and Caleb Adamski (53) rounded out the team score. Ben Schlaff also played for the Chippewas, coming in with a 59.

Despite a third-place finish Wednesday, Manistee wound up in second overall in the Lakes 8 Conference standings this season, as Ludington claimed the championship in the cumulative scoring. Muskegon Catholic took third, WMC was fourth and Orchard View finished fifth.

All-conference medals were handed out Wednesday as well, with Scharp and Caleb Adamski earning first-team honors with their performances this season and Mason Adamski being named to the second team.

“We were proud of our kids today,” said Chippewas coach Mike Swanson. “Manistee was very well represented. Overall, we’re a young team and the young players are already talking about coming back next year to give it another go.”

Onekama takes 6th in Northwest Conference

ACME — Onekama’s boys golf team competed in its final conference match of the season on Wednesday at Grand Traverse Resort.

The Portagers ended their day in sixth place behind match champion Glen Lake.

Peyton Clouse paced the Portagers with a 102 on the course. Ethan Walker shot a 123. Sawyer Christensen came in at 124 strokes. Ben Falk carded a 133, and Adam Domres finished at 140 strokes.

Following the match, all-conference awards were announced.

Clouse received honorable mention all-conference to represent Onekama in the Northwest Conference this spring.

Onekama will now move on to the postseason. The team’s regional will take place on June 3 at Waters Edge Golf Club in Hesperia.
