No. 16 Women’s Golf opens Big 12 Championship

THE WOODLANDS, Texas – The No. 16 Texas women’s golf team shot a 3-under 285 and sits in third place after the opening day of the Big 12 Championship at The Club at Carlton Woods on Sunday. Four Longhorns are in the top-15 on the individual leaderboard after 18 holes of play.

Texas was led by a 2-under performance from junior Sara Kouskova, who is tied for fifth after the opening frame. Her lone blemish was a bogey on the 10th, but parred-out the remaining eight holes on her way back to the clubhouse.

Behind Kouskova, Kaitlyn Papp is tied for 11th at 1-under par while Agathe Laisne and Ashley Park are tied for 13th at even par. Laisne, Papp and Park all opened their round with a bogey on the first hole, but settled in and managed to get their scores back to par-or-better at the day’s end.

Papp carded a team-high five birdies, including two on the 16th and 17th holes to get back to red numbers in her first round. Laisne’s best run of the day came with three-straight birdies on the sixth, seventh and eighth holes. She also birdied the 12th hole, but had three bogies on the back nine to keep her from finishing under par. Park was consistent after he opening bogey, carding three birdies, two bogies and 12 pars over her final 17 holes.

Hailee Cooper, the fifth Longhorn in the lineup this week, shot a 3-over 75. She made 16 pars in her round, but dropped a shot at the par-four seventh hole and recorded a double bogey on the 11th hole.
