LAKE ELMO, Minn. — The No. 9 Texas Women’s Golf team carded a 6-under-par 282 on Wednesday to finish in fifth place at the ANNIKA Intercollegiate presented by 3M at Royal Golf Club. Freshman Bohyun Park posted a 4-under-par 68 during Wednesday’s final round to tie for 10th place in the individual standings at 2-under-par 214 (73-73-68).
The Longhorns registered a 54-hole total of even-par 864 (291-291-282). UT’s team score of 282 on Wednesday tied Arizona State for the low round of the day.
No. 10 South Carolina claimed the team title at 14-under-par 850. No. 2 Duke placed second (857), and No. 3 Wake Forest took third (859). Julia Johnson of Ole Miss won the individual crown at 12-under-par 204, just one stroke in front of South Carolina’s Hannah Darling (205). The 12-team field at the season-opening ANNIKA included 10 squads that are ranked in the top 16 of the preseason Division I WGCA Coaches poll.
“I’m pleased with our finish,” said Texas head coach Ryan Murphy. “This tournament is a National Championship preview of sorts, so it shows you very quickly how you stack up. I thought it was a good finish to start the season. All five of our players stayed patient and finished their rounds really well. I’m particularly proud of them for that! Each of them contributed and had some terrific stretches for us.”
“Individually, Bo (Park) had a great college debut,” Murphy continued. “Final-round 68’s go a long ways and it obviously helped our team finish. I’m very proud of Bo and just happy to have her on our team. What a great start for Bo and there’s more to come. Sara (Kouskova) and Sophie (Guo) had solid weeks as usual, and they are both very close to being in terrific form. I expect some more strong scores as we continue this fall. Bentley (Cotton) played a great final round for us and really did a ton of great things through the week. Brigitte (Thibault) gave us two solid rounds, but I know she’s not satisfied. There’s more to come from Brigitte this fall and this season!”
The Longhorns are next in action at the Windy City Classic on Oct. 4-5 in Wilmette, Ill.
