Over 70 golfers are set to play in the inaugural Novel Sports Golf Tournament, which comes off on Sunday at the Pointe-a-Pierre Golf Course.The tournament begins at 6:30 am and champions will be crowned in seven flights: professionals, championship, 1st flight, 2nd flight, 3rd flight, 4th flight, and ladies.In the professional flight, T&T Open winner Ben Martin, who finished 4th at the Jamaica Open earlier this month will start as favorite.Among the challengers are Chris Richards Snr, Talin Rajendranath, and Tobago’s Ricky Campbell.In the Championship flight, Chris Richards Jr and Zico Correia will face off again in what is expected to be another titanic battle.Alex Kangoo, Omesh Dinanath, and Dave Rajkumar are expected to put in a stern test.In the 1st flight, former national footballer Christon Baptiste, who finished 3rd at the Chaguaramas Club Championships on the weekend, is the in-form player in the group.Teenager Isaiah Rowley, who finished second in the C Class at Chaguaramas, will contest the 2nd Flight title at Pointe-a-Pierre.Former first-class cricketer Ravi Deonarine and Dr. Dale Hasranah are also in the second flight field.David Benjamin will go after his second title in two weeks as he competes in the 3rd flight in the southland.The Defence Force man won the D Class at Chaguaramas last Sunday.Former national badminton star Ronald Clarke will attempt to improve on his third-place finish in Chaguaramas when he takes on the field in the 4th flight at Pointe-a-Pierre.In the Ladies Flight, Chloe Ajodah will go after her third title in a row as she heads a small field of six women at Pointe-a-Pierre.Ajodah won the Top Dog Junior title and the Chaguaramas Club women’s title during the last six weeks.She will be challenged by friend and playing partner Jada Charles, who won the Brechin Castle Open in January.The tournament begins at 6:30 am with Sherwin Seenath, Dwayne Ramlal, and national youth player Lorenzo Kent teeing off in the first group from the third flight.
