Second Round of the NCAA DIII Preview Canceled Due to Inclement Weather

HOUSTON, Texas — The second round of the NCAA Division III Women’s Golf Preview has been canceled due to a lightning storm in and around the Bay Oaks Country Club.The Generals were off to a great start on Tuesday, sitting at even par through four holes before inclement weather forced the cancelation of the event.  Only Monday’s scores will be used for the tournament and W&L concluded the tournament in fifth-place out of 16 teams with a 309 (+21).Top-ranked Carnegie Mellon won the tournament after posting a +12 score of 300 during the first round.  Alison Takamiya of George Fox finished as the individual leader, shooting a 70 (-2) to win by two strokes.First-year Laetitia Roegner (Greenwich, Conn. / IMG Academy) was the top W&L player, shooting a 74 (+2) to place in a tie for seventh-place out of the 90 golfers in the tournament.
 
Classmates Marcella Mercer (Bigfork, Montana / Flathead) and An Shelmire (Dallas, Texas / Highland Park) both finished with a 77 (+5) and tied for 24th overall, while junior Megan Kanaby (Chapel Hill, N.C. / Cardinal Gibbons) shot 81 (+9) and tied for 50th.  Senior Savannah Johnson (Owens Cross Roads, Ala. / Huntsville) tied for 58th with an 82 (+10).Washington and Lee will be back in action on Monday and Tuesday when it hosts the Generals Cup Invitational at the Homestead Resort.
