FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Ole Miss men’s golf team finished day one at the Blessings Collegiate Invitational on Monday in second amongst 10 of the best programs in the country. The team’s score of 285 saw them finish 3-under par, seven strokes behind host Arkansas. The Rebels ended strong on the 18th hole with four out of the five golfers making birdie on the final hole. However, our guys came out ready to play and only got better as the day went along.”Three of the Rebels finished their round under par. Leading the way in his Ole Miss debut was graduate transfer Evan Brown, who sank a total of three birdies on the day for a round of 70 (-2). However, it was back-to-back birdies on No. 10 and No. 11, with a third and final birdie on Hole 14, that pushed Vongchaisit into a tie for 10th individually at the end of the round. Also finishing his day at 1-under was sophomore Brett Schell, who overcame a double bogey on Hole 8 by making three birdies on his back nine to join Brown and Vongchaisit in the top 10. Schell marked one of the four Rebels to birdie No. 18.Jackson Suber had some struggles early in his round, but a late push that included a birdie on No. 15, holing out from the bunker on Hole 17, and another birdie on No. 18 to close out his round. The Tampa, Florida, native’s three birdies down the stretch got him back to 1-over for the tournament.Rounding out play for the Rebels and making his collegiate debut was redshirt-freshman Kye Meeks, who finished his day shooting a 75 (+3) to sit tied for 31st. Meeks showed great composure in his first taste of collegiate golf, netting three birdies which included one to close out his day on No. 18.Ole Miss led the field in par 4 scoring (-2), the only team play the holes in red figures.
