GREENSBORO, N.C. – The 12th-ranked Washington and Lee women’s golf team claimed its third straight Old Dominion Athletic Conference title on Monday at the Bryan Park Golf Club.
The Generals finished the two-day ODAC Championship with a +65 score of 322-319—641 (+65) to win by 13 strokes over the University of Lynchburg. The Hornets carded a 654 (+78) and Bridgewater finished third with a 682 (+106).
Sophomore Megan Kanaby (Chapel Hill, N.C. / Cardinal Gibbons) was the individual medalist, posting a +5 score of 73-76—149 that was eight shots clear of the field. Lynchburg’s Emily Erickson finished second overall with a 157 (+13).
Kanaby is just the third individual medalist from W&L, joining Mary-Frances Hall ’18 in 2016 and Laurie Jones ’21 in 2019.
The Blue & White claimed four golfers in the Top 7 and all five placed in the Top 15. Sophomore Grace Owens (Hinsdale, Ill. / Hinsdale Central) tied for third overall with a 77-83—160 (+16) and junior Savannah Johnson (Owens Cross Roads, Ala. / Huntsville) finished fifth out of the 35 golfers with an 87-78—165 (+21). Sophomore Cassie Robinson (Emporia, Va. / Greensville County) went 85-82—167 (+23) for a seventh-place finish, and senior Beth Ann Townsend (Greenville, S.C. / Travelers Rest) registered a 15th-place finish with a 91-84—175 (+31).
Washington and Lee will receive the ODAC’s automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championship which will be held on May 11-14 at the Forest Akers West Golf Club in East Lansing, Mich.
