Zaputil moves on in post season golf tourney play | Sports

The Lady Dee golf team ended its season with a fifth place finish in the first round of regional play at the River Bend Golf Course in Story City. However, Ella Zaputil moves on as an individual, finishing sixth overall.Host team Roland-Story won the meet with a 359 followed by Dike-New Harford, 409, West Marshall 414, East Marshall 460, Albia 468, Chariton 496, EBF 496 and Colo-NESCO 542.Ella Zaputil finished with a 97, good for sixth place, although two players ahead of her also had 97. Kaitlyn Rahfeldt, Roland-Story was medalist with an 81 and Jillian Beuter, DNH, was runner-up at 89.“Ella advanced to the second round of the regional girls’ golf tournament when she fired a 97 to place her in a three-way tie for 5th place,” said Coach Lynne Osing. “After the scores were carded off, Ella remained in a tie for 6th place.”

The top two teams advance to the second round of regionals, unless the host team is in the top two. In that case, three teams advance. In addition, the top six individual golfers advance, including all scores tied in 6th place, regardless if their team advances or not. Zaputil played Monday in Eagle Grove.Other Albia scores included Emma Bradley, 115, Lucy Hassinen 126, Brianna Wolfer 130, Samantha DeMeyer, 135 and Elianna Pederson, 143.“I couldn’t be prouder of the Albia Lady Dees golf team as their team season comes to a close,” said Coach Osing. “Each golfer gave their best effort every time they represented Albia on a golf course. They are young and always looking to improve. If they will spend some time out on the golf course this summer, good things can happen for us as a team next year.”
