Navy senior golfer Nicholas Klock (Moraga, Calif.) was named the Naval Academy Athletic Association Athlete of the Week presented by Northrop Grumman after winning the sudden death playoff hole to clinch the Star for the Midshipmen in the annual Army-Navy men’s golf Star Match last weekend.Klock, the lone player on either team to win two points for his respective team, opened the two-day, Ryder Cup-style classic by teaming up with team captain Chad Deegan (Sr / Newport Beach, Calif.) to score a 3 & 1 victory over Dragon Theam and Joshua Kim in the opening-day four-ball matches. One of just four players on Navy’s roster who had previously seen action in the annual competition came back on Sunday to easily defeat Lake Kim 6 & 5.Klock’s name would be called at the end of the match when Army’s Marshall Daniel edged Deegan on the 18th hole for a 1-up victory and forced a playoff hole that pit Klock against the Black Knights’ team captain Tom Katsenes. While both players drove their initial ball off the tee to the center of the fairway, it was the veteran Navy player who would go on and capture the hole and the Star in front of a gallery filled with friends, family and alumni. It was the first time the match had been played in Annapolis since 2017 and the first Star Match at Navy’s newly-restored course. It was the Mids’ first men’s golf Star Match victory since 2016.The Midshipmen will be back in action on Sunday when they head to Hampden, Mass. to play in the 16-team, 54-hole UConn Invitational at Greathorse.### Go Navy ###
