Piar’s 32 leads Marquette past Alton, McGivney


The main event comes in Saturday’s 18-hole Alton Redbirds Classic girls golf tournament, but three teams in that field played half the course at Rolling Hills on Thursday.With Gracie Piar shooting a 4-under par 32, the Marquette Catholic Explorers posted a 160 to beat the Alton Redbirds’ 167 and the Father McGivney Griffins’ 182 in a nine-hole triangular in Godfrey.
Piar earned medalist honors by eight strokes, with Marquette’s Audrey Cain and Alton’s Addison Kenney both coming in at 40.

Scoring behind Piar and Cain for the Explorers was Ava Bartosiak and Lily Montague both at 44. Alton used the 40 from Kenney, 42s from Josie Giertz and Olivia Boyd and a 43 from Samantha Eales. McGivney was led by Grace Stanhaus’ 42, with Ellie Hyten at 33, Julie Stobie at 48 and Paige Yasitis at 49.

Litchfield wins quad – Lauren Boston’s medalist round of 3-over par 38 led Litchfield to a 179 that beat Jersey (185), Civic Memorial (187) and Roxana (207) at Cloverleaf in Alton. Carly Guinness backed Boston with a 41 for the Purple Panthers.

Jersey scored Bria Tuttle’s 44, Jerra LaPlant’s 45, Miranda Raymond’s 47 and Madi Darr’s 49. CM used a 43 from Payton Whaley, 44 from Madeline Woelfel, 47 from Peyton Mormino and 53 from Jayna Halley, with Roxana getting 45 from Sydney Watts, 46 from Reagan Lynn, 51 from Ava Strohmeier and 65 from McKaela Brown.

BOYS GOLF

Marquette wins quad – Marquette edged Jersey by two shots and went 3-0 in a four-team dual at Spencer T. Olin in Alton. The Explorers shot 168, with Jersey at 170 and both Roxana and CM at 215.

Jersey was led by Mason Seymour’s 39, while Tyler Noble’s 40, Garett Smith’s 45 and Austin Hayes’ 46 also scored for the Panthers.
