Sauras second in NW1A golf tournament

The Sauras’ Jake Tedder led all Stokes County golfers with a score of 79 in the Northwest 1A 18-hole Golf Tournament on Monday.

PILOT MOUNTAIN — South Stokes and North Stokes competed in the Northwest 1A Boys’ Conference Golf Tournament on Monday at Pilot Knob Country Club. East Surry (309) took first on its home course, with the Sauras (323) placing second, followed by Bishop McGuinness (332), Mount Airy (395), and the Vikings (451).
Winston-Salem Preparatory Academy had no representative in the conference championship.
East Surry’s Anderson Badgett was named the Northwest Conference Player of the Year with an 18-hole score of 72. Badgett was the only one of 25 golfers in the tournament to score par on the front nine, and one of two to score 36 on the back nine.
South Stokes’ Jake Tedder was the highest finisher from Stokes County. He scored a 41 on the front nine and a 38 on the back for a total of 79, tying the Cardinal’s Jace Goldbach for fifth place.
The Sauras’ Noah Sparks tied for seventh with an 80, and Larson Gallimore and Keelan Robertson tied for eighth overall with an 82.
The Vikings’ Matt Edwards finished the best on his team with a 48 on the front nine and a 57 on the back for a score of 105.
Tedder and Sparks will join East Surry’s team at the Midwest 1A Regional on May 3 at Piney Point Golf Club in Norwood.
The following golfers were named to the NW1A All-Conference team: Anderson Badgett, Bradley Davis, Jace Goldbach, Chase Harris (East Surry); Jake Tedder, Noah Sparks, Larsen Gallimore, Keelan Robertson (South Stokes); Sam Haggas, Daniel Jones, Josh Fisher (Bishop McGuinness); and Eli Morrison (Mount Airy).
East Surry coach Darrin Haywood was named the conference Coach of the Year.
