The Orange County girls golf preview: top 10 teams, players to watch
ORANGE COUNTY TOP 10
(Records through Sept. 22)
1. Troy (7-1): The reigning CIF-SCGA SoCal champion returns four of its top-five scoring players from the June tournament, including the senior duo of Gabby Kano and Hannah Ulibarri.
2. Santa Margarita (7-0): The sizzling Eagles shot a school-record 179 last week at Coto de Caza’s South Course in a victory against Mater Dei. On Monday, they won the Rainbow Sandals tournament by one stroke over Diamond Bar at San Clemente Municipal.

3. Mater Dei (6-2): The Monarchs flexed their muscle by splitting a pair of matches against Troy. They also posted a dominant victory at the Chappy Wheeler Invitational in Rancho Mirage. Mater Dei features a strong trio in Emma Thipavong, Kate Lising and Michaela Fernandez.
4. Los Alamitos (7-1-1): The Griffins will lean on several returners in their duels against Edison and Fountain Valley in the Surf League. They placed a strong third at the Rainbow Sandals tournament behind junior Kate Younger.
5. Edison (7-2): The Chargers dropped a pair of matches to Mater Dei but return reigning Register player of the year Chloe Lam and emerging senior Hallie Brisco.
6. Fountain Valley (7-1): The Barons placed second at the West Covina tournament. They’re led by seniors Madison Le, a Long Beach State commit, and Milan Nguyen
7. Northwood (6-0): The reigning Pacific Coast League champion is off to a fast start behind freshmen Bridget Chantharath and Shivali Shrivastava and sophomore Jia Ana.
8. Huntington Beach (5-2): The Oilers return junior Chloe Griffith but are aiming to improve their depth.
9. Crean Lutheran (2-1): With the return of USC-bound Catherine Park and sophomore Elise Lee, the Saints should be tough to beat in the Empire League.
10T. Orange Lutheran (8-4): The Lancers are heating up after splitting with Yorba Linda and tying for fifth at the Rainbow Sandals tournament.
10T. Yorba Linda (6-1): The Mustangs and two-time league MVP Natalie Neal split a pair of matches against Orange Lutheran.
Also considered: Dana Hills (6-0).
