BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh Invitational returns after a one-year COVID-related hiatus as the Mountain Hawks will close out their fall season by hosting the two-day, 36-hole event Monday and Tuesday on the Grace Course at Saucon Valley Country Club.
Saucon Valley Country Club, founded in 1920, has grown from 18 holes and a clubhouse to become one of the largest private clubs in North America. It encompasses 800 acres and consists of four courses, including the Weyhill Course, Old Course, Grace Course and Short Course. The Grace Course opened with nine holes in the fall of 1953 with the second nine opened for play in 1958. Named for Eugene Gifford Grace (Lehigh Class of 1899), longtime president and chairman of Bethlehem Steel, the Grace Course measures 6,012 yards from the ladies tees and features greens nearly twice the size of those on the Old Course but without the severe contours.
This will be the fourth and final fall tournament for the Mountain Hawks, who finished second at the Bucknell Invitational, eighth at the Navy Fall Invitational, and most recently fifth out of 12 teams at the Quinnipiac Classic, Oct. 11-12. Freshman Madison Pineda has led Lehigh in all three of its fall tournaments and has earned Patriot League honorable mention recognition three times so far this season.
Pineda will play in the No. 1 position for the Mountain Hawks this weekend. The rest of Lehigh’s scoring team includes sophomores Sophie Holland and Meghna Grover and juniors Iris Shin and Hannah Foster. Junior Marina Mendez, sophomore Sophia Taverna and freshmen Sophie Chang and Mia Scarpati will compete as individuals.
Lehigh finished fourth at the last Lehigh Invitational in 2019 and won the team title in the three tournaments before that.
This year’s field includes Delaware State, Fairfield, Fairleigh Dickinson, La Salle, Lehigh, Le Moyne, Monmouth, Mount St. Mary’s, Navy, Niagara and Saint Francis.
Tee times both days are set for 9 a.m. going off the first and 10th tees. Lehigh will be playing with Navy and Saint Francis on day one.
